Fifty years today since Martin Luther King Jr. pronounced his "I have a dream" speech in Washington, USA.

Let us remind ourselves that the U.S. had an apartheid-type system which meant that among other things, Afro-Americans had to attend separate schools to Caucasian-Americans. Have things moved on in the U.S. regarding racial discrimination in education?

It would appear not, according to this article. An interesting insight is that housing appears to be one of the driving factors creating educational inequality.

Housing in areas with better schools costs more, thus the class divide is exacerbated. The same system is common in the Western world including France, England and to a certain extent here in Hong Kong. Another contributing factor to why social inequality has been growing in recent decades... the rich enjoy quality education while the poor get left behind.
